Warren Brodine joins Chicago Family Health Center on September 8, 2008 as the organization’s Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Brodine joins Chicago Family with a strong background in managing community health centers. Most recently, Mr. Brodine served as a director of healthcare consulting for RSM McGladrey, Inc., a leading business and accounting consulting firm, and focuses his practice on community health centers from coast to coast. In this role, Mr. Brodine worked with community health centers on expansion planning, and has worked with clients on FQHC look-alike development, FQHC grant expansion, and budget development. His clients include community health centers, hospital systems, physician practices, and associations.
Prior to his work at McGladrey, Warren worked as the Director, Strategic Initiatives for Access Community Health Network. Warren has also served at the COO of the Rodgers Health Center in Kansas City and as Deputy Director of the Missouri Primary Care Association. In these roles, Mr. Brodine was responsible for data analysis, policy development and legislative affairs, and prior to that was a lobbyist for water transportation issues and women’s health issues.
Mr. Brodine also provides trainings for state primary care associations and the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC). He is one of the principal authors of “Strategic Planning” for NACHC, and made significant contributions to NACHC’s national curriculum on Revenue Maximization.
Mr. Brodine holds his B.A and Masters Degree from Indiana University.
When Mr. Mitchell joined Chicago Family Health Center 2½ years ago as the Chief Operating Officer, he brought more than 20 years of health-care management experience to the position. Mr. Mitchell is responsible for directing, administering and coordinating the day-to-day operation of the organization. Prior to joining CFHC, Mr. Mitchell held management positions with the Near North Health Service, the Will County Health Department and Cook County Hospital. Mr. Mitchell holds a bachelor of science degree in health education from Illinois State University and a master’s in health service administration from Governors State University.
Currently, Mr. Mitchell is an adjunct professor with Governors State University for the College of Health Profession. He is affiliated with the 9th Ward Business Advisory, the American College of Health Care Executives, the National Association of Health Service Executives, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Mr. Mitchell is a certified STD/HIV counselor, vision screening technician and audio-metric technician, and is a licensed pharmacy technician.
Mrs. Rodriguez came to Chicago Family Health Center in 1981 as an intake secretary/billing clerk. More than 24 years later, Mrs. Rodriguez is currently serving as the Chief Financial Officer. She holds a bachelor of arts degree from DePaul University with a concentration in finance. Mrs. Rodriguez brings her unique history and strength to her role of CFO. She is an expert in health-care reimbursement, revenue cycle management, managed-care billing and cash management. Mrs. Rodriguez manages a budget with total revenues approaching $10 million and total assets of more than $2.4 million. Through her leadership ability and analytical problem-solving skills, she has restored the financial viability of Chicago Family Health Center. Mrs. Rodriguez was honored in 2003 with an Award of Excellence from the Illinois Primary Health Care Association.
Medical Director/Pediatric Physician
Dr. Carl Toren joined the staff of Chicago Family Health Center as the medical director in 2001. In addition to his work at CFHC, Dr. Toren serves as part-time medical director for a shelter for abused and neglected children. Prior to assuming his position, Dr. Toren was the medical director for the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago. He spent three years as a staff physician and public health supervisor at Aira Hospital in western Ethiopia for the Reformed Church in America.
Dr. Toren is medically licensed in the State of Illinois; is Illinois Controlled Substance Licensed; and is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in general pediatrics.
Dr. Toren has received numerous honors and awards; serves on several professional committees; and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Director of New Initiatives and Grant Programs
Ms. Moreno has been with Chicago Family Health Center since 1991, when she joined the organization as the triage nurse. In 1993, Ms. Moreno became the clinical director. Her responsibilities included managing the triage department, reception, referral/recall and switchboard departments. Ms. Moreno also supervised the medical assistant, lab tech and phlebotomist staff.
Ms. Moreno held that position until 2002, when she became the director of grants and new initiatives. In this position, she oversees the development and supervises programs and services that relate directly to the primary care of patients. She also serves as the QI and privacy officer.
Prior to joining Chicago Family Health Center, Ms. Moreno held nursing positions at South Shore Hospital, Neomedica Dialysis Center, Aguayo Neurological Center and South Chicago Community Hospital. Ms. Moreno graduated with a degree in nursing from the South Chicago Community Hospital School of Nursing and is registered as an Illinois and Indiana Professional Nurse.
Ms. Porras joined Chicago Family Health Center as a perinatal nurse case manager in 1993. In this position, Ms. Porras was responsible for the clinical case management of the Center's OB patients. Since that time, Ms. Porras has served as the perinatal coordinator, Healthy Start project manager and was promoted to her current position, director of comprehensive services, in April 2004. In this position, she is responsible for programmatic design, integration and implementation of the Healthy Start, family case management and clinical perinatal and pediatric services. Ms. Porras also serves as the team leader for Health Disparities Collaborative.
Ms. Porras is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, the Illinois Primary Health Care Association, the National Healthy Start Association and a member of Metropolitan Family Services Community Advisory Board.
Ms. Porras was honored in 2002 with the VNA Foundation's "Superstar Nurse" Award, as well as being honored by the March of Dimes with the Outstanding Committee Member of Latina Conference Committee. In 2003, Ms. Porras was honored by the National Association of Community Health Centers' Health Professional Education and Training Award.
Mrs. Ajose joined Chicago Family Health Center in 1987 as a project manager/health educator and is currently serving as the special programs director for the organization. In her current position, Mrs. Ajose brings 18 years of supervisory experience to the Developmental Disabilities, Healthcare for the Homeless, Home-Based Support, Respite and Family Assistance programs. Prior to joining CFHC, Mrs. Ajose served in various positions, ranging from an adult education instructor to a home health nurse. In these positions, Mrs. Ajose sharpened her skills, allowing her to bring a wealth of knowledge and compassion to her current role.
Mrs. Ajose holds a bachelor of science degree from St. Francis University in Joliet, and a MPA from Roosevelt University with a concentration in health care. Mrs. Ajose also holds a certificate in rehabilitation from Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital, a certificate in adult day care management from the Illinois Association of Adult Day Care Management and a diploma in nursing from the South Chicago Community Hospital School of Nursing. She is registered as an Illinois Professional Nurse. In 2005, Mrs. Ajose became a QMRP coordinator and instructor for the Developmental Disabilities program.
Ms. Tieder joined Chicago Family Health Center in April 2005 as Director of Communications and External Affairs. Her responsibilities at CFHC include internal and external communications, fund-raising, public relations, media relations, special events management and community relations.
Prior to joining CFHC, Ms. Tieder served as director of development for SOS Children’s Villages Illinois and the Crisis Center of South Suburbia and as executive director of Special Children’s Charities. Ms. Tieder started her non-profit career in various departments, including marketing and logistics, at America’s Second Harvest. She has developed and implemented alternative funding plans when the government has reduced or discontinued support. She was instrumental in developing the first coordinated disaster relief plan developed by America’s Second Harvest, the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
Ms. Tieder holds a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University, an associate’s degree from Prairie State College and a management certificate in transportation logistics from the University of Wisconsin. She is currently pursuing her M.B.A. degree.
