Health for Women: Better Health, a Better You

Chicago Family Health Center provides many health and support services to women and their children. Our professional and experienced medical staff provides comprehensive care for the routine, urgent and chronic medical needs of our patients, as well as sexual health, reproductive and gynecological services, immunizations, and referrals.

Obstetrics and Gynecology Services (OB/GYN)
An obstetrician/gynecologist is a doctor who delivers babies and treats diseases of the female reproductive system. Routine services include:

  • Family planning
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Pregnancy support
  • Prenatal care
  • Perinatal care
  • Postpartum care
  • Breast-feeding counseling

We offer free case management to patients before, during and after pregnancy to help you and your baby stay healthy.

Support Programs:

  1. Healthy Start helps reduce the infant death rate and the incidence of low-birth-weight babies by providing healthcare and support to pregnant women and their babies until their children’s second birthday. Women who qualify for Healthy Start receive the following services at no cost:
    • Prenatal care
    • Public aid assistance
    • Family planning
    • Health education
    • Breast-feeding education
  2. Family Case Management supports low-income pregnant women and their children under the age of 1. Women who qualify receive the following services at no cost:
    • Referrals to Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program
    • Family planning
    • Health education
  3. Targeted Intensive Pregnancy Case Management Program (TIP) offers emotional support and information to pregnant women who have a medical condition, women who have more than one child and those who had a premature baby in the past. This program also helps women who are having difficulties with housing, child care and transportation. Women who qualify receive the following services at no cost:
    • Referrals to organizations that can help with items for babies
    • Walmart gift cards
    • Transportation assistance
    • Emotional support and guidance

Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness
Chicago Family Health Center offers breast and cervical cancer screenings for low-income women who live in Illinois and don’t have insurance generously provided by: The Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, Stand Against Cancer and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Mammogram Fund. Services include:

  • Education about breast and cervical cancer
  • Breast and cervical cancer screenings, including breast exams and Pap smears at no cost
  • Referral for a free mammogram at local hospitals
  • Low-cost tests and procedures

Healthy Moms = Healthy Babies
Healthy Moms = Healthy Babies (HM=HB) covers the cost of routine healthcare for women between 14 and 44 years old who don’t have insurance. This program is only available for a limited time. Services include:

  • Routine checkups, including annual pelvic exams and physicals
  • Family planning visits
  • Mental health visits
  • Copayments for medications from CFHC sites
  • Copayments for birth control prescriptions
  • Copayments for insertion of an intrauterine device (birth control)

This program does not cover any outside medications, tests, procedures or surgeries. If you think you may qualify, talk with the front desk staff at any CFHC location. To enroll in HM=HB we will need the following documents:

  • Proof of age
  • Proof that you live in Illinois
  • Proof of income that reflects yearly earnings of $44,100 or less for a family of four

If your private insurance does not cover well-woman care, you may qualify for this program. We need documentation from your insurance company to verify your benefits.
