CFHC receives funding from The Chicago Community Trust
March 31, 2008
The Chicago Community Trust has generously committed $15,000 to support Chicago Family Health Center’s Cultural Competency Program. The ultimate goal of this program is to ensure that Chicago Family is providing the most culturally sensitive and appropriate care possible.
“We believe it is important as an organization to communicate effectively, and convey information in a manner that is easily understood by diverse audiences,” Chicago Family Chief Executive Officer Wendy Cox said. “The Cultural Competence Program will provide CFHC staff with the tools to effectively serve the health needs of the community.”
Funding from The Chicago Community Trust will allow CFHC to develop and implement an internal Cultural Competence Program. The program has three main components — all staff training, health interpretation training and Spanish for providers training. These three components will allow CFHC patients to receive healthcare in their primary languages from understanding staff.
The mission of The Chicago Community Trust is to lead and inspire philanthropic efforts that measurably improve the quality of life and the prosperity of our region. For 93 years, The Chicago Community Trust has connected the generosity of donors with the needs of the community by making grants to organizations working to improve metropolitan Chicago. With assets of $1.8 billion, the Trust made a record-breaking $114 million in grants in 2007. From strengthening community schools to assisting local art programs, from building health centers to helping lives affected by violence, the Trust works to enhance our region.
