CFHC cuts ribbon on South Chicago facility

August 28, 2007

Chicago Family Health Center’s South Chicago facility is officially complete. Members of the community joined CFHC in celebrating the opening of the South Chicago facility at a ribbon-cutting ceremony August 28. The festivities included speeches, tours, and a health fair and reception following the ceremony.

Guests gathered on Exchange Avenue near the entrance of the new facility to hear many people who were integral in the project speak. Among those who spoke, there was one underlying theme — this facility is one that is greatly needed by the community to serve the very deserving residents.

“Today is the realization of a dream for CFHC — to have a state-of-the-art facility that provides this community access to the necessary services they deserve,“ Chief Executive Officer Wendy Cox said.

In addition to Cox, those who spoke included Board Chairman Tom Munoz, Chairman and CEO of ComEd and Honorary Campaign Chairperson Frank Clark, Mimi Mesirow from Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr.’s office, Chief of Staff for Barbara Flynn Currie Ellie Fox, IPHCA President and Chief Executive Officer Bruce Johnson, and Founding Board Member and Steering Committee Chair Father Mark Brummel.

Following the speeches board members, steering committee members, legislators, and CFHC senior staff each took turns cutting the ribbon for the facility. Then guests were given tours.

The ribbon cutting marks the completion of the second phase of construction, which included the renovation of the existing facility. The first phase, a 30,000-square-foot expansion, was completed in early spring 2007. This expansion increased the number of exam rooms to 30 and dental operatories to eight. The new expansion provides the space needed to bring all comprehensive services under one roof. The new building provides the increased capacity needed to serve more than 5,000 new patients over the next five years.
