Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie and State Senator Kwane Raoul join forces to help CFHC
State House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie (25th State Representative District) and State Senator Kwane Raoul (13th State Senate District) have joined forces to help Chicago Family Health Center (CFHC) in increasing the number of dental suites and services at the South Chicago Clinic located at 9119 South Exchange Ave.
The expanded Dental Department is part of a larger expansion project for CFHC. The building expansion, slated to begin in spring 2006, will produce a total of 30 new exam rooms, additional dental suites, expanded lab and pharmacy space, and a separate area for mental health services. Other related programs will be moved into the new building, bringing all services under one roof.
The two state legislators have secured $150,000 in state funds to help construct the three additional dental suites. The addition of these suites will provide services to an additional 2,800 patients a year. “The Majority Leader and the State Senator have worked together to secure these much-needed funds for CFHC,” says Wendy R. Cox, Chief Executive Officer. “Our dental clinic serves over 5,000 patients a year and for many of them, this is one of few dental clinics that will accept public aid (sliding scale) patients.”
On a visit to the South Chicago Clinic, the Majority Leader learned of the need for dental services in the community as well as the plans to expand the clinic.
With the Majority Leader and State Senator’s help, the newly expanded dental clinic will begin to see new patients in late fall 2006.
Chicago Family Health Center is a community-based, non-profit health center that provides comprehensive, accessible primary healthcare to the residents of South Chicago, Roseland and surrounding communities. In 2005, CFHC served over 17,000 patients regardless of their ability to pay.
