Healing Hands honors supporters, raises funds for primary health

Chicago Family Health Center’s (CFHC) annual Healing Hands Celebration takes place at 6:30 PM on Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Mid-America Club at the AON Center, 200 E. Randolph, Chicago IL.  The evening will honor CFHC supporters’ commitment to creating healthy families and strong communities. This event marks the 35th Anniversary of Chicago Family Health Center.

The Claretian Missionaries will be honored with the distinguished 2012 Healing Hands Award for their lasting commitment to the health and wellness of Chicago Family Health Center patients and the South Side of Chicago. Founded in 1977, Chicago Family Health Center first opened on 91st and Commercial by the Claretian Missionaries. The Claretian Medical Center was later renamed Chicago Family Health Center.

Chicago Family Health Center will also recognize three other awardees:  15th Ward Alderman Toni Foulkes as Public Service Partner of the Year, the Medical Home Network as Community Partner of the Year, and Sherwin-Williams as the Corporate Partner of the Year.

In addition to recognizing its partners, Chicago Family Health Center will also launch an ambitious capital campaign for the Pullman Replacement Project.  This project will rebuild the current, antiquated CFHC Pullman site located at 556 E. 115th St., which first opened in 1987. The new site is scheduled to open in 2013 and will more than double the number healthcare visits at the site.  A sizable capital campaign is needed to leverage a Federal Affordable Care Act/Capital Development Grant from the Health Services and Resources Administration (HRSA) and New Market Tax Credits financing.

Healing Hands is a yearly event that raises funds from companies and individuals through sponsorships, a silent auction and raffle ticket sales. This year’s Presenting Sponsor is MB Financial Bank.  Proceeds fund primary health care services for low-income residents of Chicago’s South, Southeast and Southwest sides who have little or no healthcare coverage.  CFHC provides primary healthcare services including pediatrics, women’s health, hypertension care, care for seniors, HIV care, behavioral health services and much more.
